Washington’s Boyhood Home

ARCHAEOLOGISTS DISCOVER HISTORICAL GEM AT GEORGE WASHINGTON’S FARM
Excavations at Washington’s Boyhood Home Uncover Vital Piece of Presidential History

Of particular interest to us:
"The archaeologists are particularly interested in a broken-off bowl of a pipe, blackened inside from heavy use, that was typical of the mid-18th century when George lived in the house. Found in one of the cellars, __the pipe bears a clear Masonic crest__; Washington joined the Fredericksburg Lodge of the Masons in 1753."

Structures

A structure is a tree of wiki pages. Create a group of pages as a structure and added the other pages to the structure. Added a table of contents to the bottom of the page. In the structure you can give a page an alias and change the branching (parent/child relationship).

A page in the structure adds "edit structure" as an option to the page pull down tool. Below the tool icon there is a field to enter a new page name to the structure. There may be a check box to make the new page a child.

You can also add a page via "edit structure".

Permissions may be assigned to the top page of a structure and the children inherit them. Permissions may also be assigned to a category. Sorry but right now new pages do not inherit categories.

Pages can belong to more than one structure and more than one category.

You can also view a structure as a slide show.

Other Stores

Recently I was in search of various Masonic merchandise, and through my search, I found two stores that have some reasonable prices, Klitzner Online has a large amount of various products for Blue lodge, York and Scottish Rite. I was also in search for a ring online, but being in college, I did not have the money to afford a $300-$500 ring. there a lot of online vendors that produce stainless steel rings for $100 base price for all rings. I went through jemsbyjem.com,

eBay

Anyone else getting good stuff cheap off eBay? I've found some cool Masonic stuff there.

One I'm particularly pleased with is a rather old SR ring I picked up for $74 (IIRC). It's not a patched-up 14th ring like so many older ones are, but a cast 18k white gold ring, luckily not resized, fairly heavy but narrow, with a small emerald-cut aquamarine and some of the most delicate enameling I've seen. Seems to predate the heavy double eagle rings that popped up at least by WWI. Only one like it I've seen.

Another one I bought is a solid-back 14k yellow gold onyx S&C ring for $78, probably over 15 grams, brand new. Saw the same ring at jpluther.com for $532 and I think it's also at lafsco.com for the same price.

Sniping (or bidding at the very last moment) is the way to go, no question. There's a certain kind of bidder who will inch up the bid a dollar at a time until they outbid you, and these folks drive up prices very fast. [http://www.sniperight.com|SnipeRight] is a program that will put in a snipe for you a few seconds before auction close. It costs $20 and it's worth every dime, however if all you want is 3 free snipes a week, [http://www.auctiontamer.com|AuctionTamer] will do it for you.

I also regularly pick up gold clutch back pins on eBay for peanuts, however if you have a presentation to make and you can't wait for an auction to end, there are some very nice ones for reasonable prices at [http://www.jpluther.com/jewelry.htm|jpluther].

For book fans, eBay is somewhat limited (all I got there was a biography of Webb). Nothing beats searching for old books on [http://www.google.com|Google]. I found Jeremy Cross' Hieroglyphic Monitor for $50 at a rare bookseller's site, foxed and beat up, but [http://www.kessingerpub.com|Kessinger] didn't have a reprint and I wanted to see whence Virginia ritual came. I also found a GL that carried a book about Preston containing much of his original writing, and they sold it to me.
